An Interview With Preethi Venkatram – A Food Blogger at Cooking With Pree
Just tell me a little bit of what food blogging means to you.
Ans: Initially food blogging was a way of keeping me occupied. I have always loved cooking and food blogging seemed like a perfect hobby and also a platform for me to document my cooking stories. But now, I have realized that I am really passionate about it and want to share my love for food with as many people as possible.
What inspired you to start the blog?
Ans: I was cooking a lot of dishes after my marriage and I was really excited about it. I kept sharing the pictures of my food with my friends and family. After a point of time, I realized it would be easier if I just documented everything in a blog and thus Cookingwithpree came into existence.
When did you realize this was going to become more than just a hobby?
Ans: When friends and family tried out my recipes and said they loved it, I realized this could actually become something.
Why do you think food blogging has become so popular now?
Ans: People are always in search of new recipes. As much as they love eating out, they have also become conscious about their health and want to cook at home. Food blogs allow them to find recipes which they would like to eat. Hence a lot of blogs have come up to cater to the needs of the people.
What is the most time-consuming part for you as a food blogger?
Ans: The most time-consuming part about blogging is making sure the posts reach as many people as possible (marketing)
Could you give some advice for bloggers who are starting out?
Ans: You should definitely do it if you are really passionate about food. As a food blogger, you will be thinking about food all the time 🙂 Not only do you have to plan your day to day cooking, but also plan out recipes for your blog, photograph it and share it with people. You might not get the results you need immediately. It is a slow process, but the key is to be patient and give your hundred percent. Figure out why you want to blog about food and work on that.
What is the most important thing you should be doing as a food blogger?
Ans: Keep exploring different food trends, try different cuisines and take inspiration from everything.
How much technical know how do you think someone needs to have if they want to become a food blogger?
Ans: For someone who is just starting as a food blogger, you can get away without the much technical knowledge or at least find someone who can help you with it.
What according to you is the best way to increase traffic to your food blog?
Ans: Social media, writing user-friendly and original content.
How often did you post when you started off as opposed to now?
Ans: I used to post once a month or so when I started out. I try to do at least 2 posts a week now.
Do you think there is a right time to start monetizing a food blog?
