An Interview With Divya Banthia – A Food Blogger at That Baker Gal
Just tell me a little bit of what food blogging means to you.
Ans: For me, blogging has been my way of communicating my thoughts to others. Food blogging has become a platform for me to showcase my experiments with food and learn so much through the research and other bloggers out there.
What inspired you to start the blog?
Ans: Julia Child. My inspiration. To be precise, the movie “Julie and Julia” inspired me to start my blog. Read my blog to know more about it.
When did you realize this was going to become more than just a hobby?
Ans: When I started out, my blog was surely my hobby. I think, with time and the response I got from my contacts, I realized that it’s not just my hobby, but also a platform to learn and improve my skills. And after I bought my own domain, it became definitely more than just a hobby.
Why do you think food blogging has become so popular now?
Ans: Because there are so many great cooks out there waiting to showcase their talent. And food blogging gives them the opportunity with no other requirements. Also, internet access has made it easier for people to acquire information through blogs, social media, and other things.
What is the most time-consuming part for you as a food blogger?
Ans: For me, it’s definitely photography. Being a novice in this area, taking good pictures with good presentation takes effort.
Could you give some advice for bloggers who are starting out?
Ans: Believe in yourself. Explore as much as can. Research. Be unique in your own way and create content of your own. Have fun with it and love it.
What is the most important thing you should be doing as a food blogger?
Ans: Research, research, and research. Research about food, blogging technicalities, photography skills and also use them for your benefit. Be active on social media. It helps.
How much technical know how do you think someone needs to have if they want to become a food blogger?
Ans: Having a little knowledge always helps. For someone like me who had a technical background, understanding the technical side of my blog got easier. Also, some things are always learned over time.
What according to you is the best way to increase traffic to your food blog?
Ans: Posting on social media. Know more about SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) techniques. They help in increasing organic traffic. Stay in the blogging zone. Be consistent with your posts.
How often did you post when you started off as opposed to now?
Ans: When I started out, I was quite consistent with my posts with 2 posts a week. With time, it has changed. I try to be as consistent as I can with 2 posts a month.
How soon were you able to make your first 100 dollars?
Ans: Yet to achieve this milestone.
What is your preferred source of monetization for your blog?
Ans: Google adsense and affiliate marketing.
Do you think there is a right time to start monetizing a food blog?
Ans: There is no right time to start monetizing your blog. When you feel you are ready for it, do it.
Which is your favorite social network, if any?
Ans: Pinterest and Facebook.
Name your favorite ingredient you think people should be using more in their cooking at home.
Ans: Indian spices. They can do wonders.
Would you like to share your favorite recipe on your blog?
Ans: Yes. Why not?
